Loss is a part of life...

Today I was able to chat with a man that has appreciated my youth, and accomplishments as a black man. He has seen and lived a good life. He has seen and live the hardships of a black man. He has raised a family, watched them grow. He has loved and been loved by a good woman.

Today I looked at him and feared that it would be the last time I would ever see him. I've seen him as he has dwindled from a robust man walking upright on both feet. To a man that has to use a a walker just to go to and fro. The use of medications, severe weight loss, hair loss, have not reduced this man's overall demeanor, mindset, mentality toward life. Even in the midst of his obvious end of life, he maintains a positive attitude, knowing that he has lived a good life.

Though I can admire this attitude, I do not look forward to his exit from this life.
He has so much that he could share with younger black people. So much that they could learn from his example. When he is gone, there will never be another like him. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet him, talk to him and hopefully have learned from him.

He gave me the high compliment saying that, he would have been proud to have had a son like me.
I can only hope that he will continue to be an example, continue to be a part of my life. He's a good man. He will be missed when his journey is over.

To those who find this blog, let those you care for know it. Tell the people in your life that they matter. Be caring and gracious to those that you give a damn about. Time is not our friend. Reach out and let your feeling be know to the people in your life.

Take care,
PEace.
