Knock Knock... Is anybody out there?

This morning I've been in my head a little bit. Thinking about my life, past and future. Thinking about the people who have come and gone (alive and dead) in my life. I'm not religious or even spiritual but I have to believe that the whole of life and existence isn't relegated to this little blue marble, on the outskirts of a mediocre galaxy, floating in the universe (multiverse if you're a comic book fan). Even if you're religious, the concepts of an afterlife are limited to what we know from this life. Yes, the bible says the streets are paved with gold. The Koran mentions something about 72 virgins, and other religious texts have some version of an afterlife that, for all intents and purposes, is just a better or much worse version of this life.

As for myself, I like science and like the theory of the conservation of energy which simply states: that energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transformed from one form to another. If this is true, the thing that makes us tick, our minds, our souls, is some form of energy keeping our bodies alive. Giving us the ability learn and grow and develop over our lifespan. At the end of that life, when the body ceases to function, where does that energy go? We know that our bodies decompose and go back to the earth, to become part of the circle of life. But what about the energy that kept the body alive, the energy that was our mind and soul, our thoughts and feelings?

If the conservation of energy is correct, it has to go somewhere. Some religions believe in reincarnation. That sounds good. It would mean that "you" would live all over again in one way or another. There are some people who believe that they lived a previous life as some famous person in the past, but you can probably find a dozen others who've claimed to live that life as well. This could explain the split personality situation in some people. Reincarnation could also explain child prodigies. Children who know and understand Einstein level mathematics before they've ever entered the education system. They're the recycled soul of a person that has lived, learned and died, time and time and time and time and time again, with that wealth of knowledge attached to their essence.

But what if  reincarnation isn't limited to Earth? What if we live new life as different beings on planets far removed from this planet? It could explain the need for the universal need for each galaxy to have millions to billions of planets, and for the need of millions to billions of galaxies in the universe. It's a matter of rotation. On earth there are hundreds of children born everyday. Are those new souls or old souls in a new form? Might they eventually know the part of them that made them who they were or just have enough insight to be better than their previous existence? If they're on a different world, in a different form, would their previous insight/instinct even be useful or would  they have to just get through that life the same way the got through the previous life?

What's the purpose of the sudo-philosophical blah blah blah? There is none.
I think of my stepmother often. She means a great deal to me, even though is almost 4 years since she died. She loved my brother and me as her own. She made me a better person, a better man. And I miss her everyday. That said, I would like to think that just because she's passed away, doesn't mean that she hasn't moved on to a new phase of existence. If the conservation of energy is true, then she is hopefully living a life somewhere. As opposed to just being dead or floating in the ether. She deserves better than that. We all do.

To those who find this blog, thanks for your time, give some love to somebody and let them know tht they matter.
